For minimalists who appreciate concise descriptions, Smith Magazine has published a collection of six-word memoirs, Not Quite What I Was Planning. The book was published this month, but the project continues with additions posted to their web site. The most amusing entries come from authors you recognize, such as Joyce Carol Oates who wrote, "Revenge is living well, without you."
The idea for six-word memoirs sprang from the literary legend that when challenged to write a six-word novel, Ernest Hemingway responded, "For Sale: Baby shoes, never worn."
The editors are now touring the country, participating in six-word slams. Read the February 25 feature from The New Yorker for the back story. What's your story in six words?
